Terms of use

The rules of the interface and the protocol behind it, in plain language.

What you are agreeing to

These terms cover your use of the RHNS website and app (the interface). By using the interface you accept them. The naming protocol itself is a set of smart contracts on a public blockchain: it is permissionless, this interface is only one of many possible ways to reach it, and interacting with the contracts directly is governed by their code alone.

// 02

The service

RHNS lets you register human-readable names that resolve to blockchain addresses and related records. A single registration gives you the same name in two forms: the native name under .rbh and its ENS-compatible twin under rname.eth. Both point at the same onchain record and always share one owner.

// 03

Names, fees, and renewals

Names are rented by the year and renewable indefinitely. Fees are set in US dollars, shown before you pay, converted to ETH at the moment of purchase using an onchain price feed, and fund the protocol; fee-setting moves to DAO governance once it launches. Registration uses a two-step commit and reveal flow to protect you from front-running; both steps are transactions you approve in your own wallet. Anyone may renew any name, which is convenient for teams and gifts, but renewal never changes ownership. Fees paid to the protocol are not refundable.

// 04

Expiry and the grace period

When a name expires, resolution stops immediately, but you keep a 90-day grace period during which only you can renew it. After the grace period ends, the name returns to open availability and its previous records are cleared. Set a reminder before your expiry date; losing a name past grace cannot be undone by us or by anyone.

// 05

Your wallet, your responsibility

You control your wallet and keys, and everything a name can do flows from that control. We cannot recover names sent to wrong addresses, reverse transactions, or restore access lost with a seed phrase. Verify every transaction in your wallet before approving it. Nobody from RHNS will ever ask for your seed phrase or private key.

// 06

Acceptable use

Do not register names to impersonate people, brands, or institutions, to infringe trademarks, or to enable fraud. Do not use the interface to break the law of your jurisdiction, probe or attack our infrastructure, or scrape the service in ways that degrade it for others. Name disputes are handled through the DAO's dispute process, and we may decline to display content in the interface that facilitates fraud, while the underlying protocol remains permissionless.

// 07

Independence and trademarks

RHNS is an independent community project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Robinhood Markets, Inc. in any way. RHNS marks and this site's design belong to the project; brand assets may be used according to the guidelines on the brand page. All other trademarks belong to their respective owners.

// 08

Risk disclosure

Blockchains carry real risk: network congestion, chain reorganizations, wallet bugs, smart contract vulnerabilities, and the volatility of ETH itself. Names and any associated tokens are not investments, and nothing in this interface is financial advice. Only commit funds you can afford to lose, and understand each transaction before you sign it.

// 09

No warranties, limited liability

The interface is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the project and its contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for losses arising from use of the protocol or interface, including lost names, lost funds, or lost profits. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the fees you paid through the interface in the twelve months before the claim.

// 10

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the protocol evolves. Material changes are announced on the blog and in the app before they take effect, and the date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Continued use after an update means you accept it. Questions: legal@rhns.domains.
